Book One in the “de Good Life Farm” series of children’s nonfiction picture books, My Name is Mocha! is the heartwarming story of Mocha, a Jersey dairy cow, the first to live on de Good Life Farm, a small homestead, hobby farm. In her own voice, Mocha tells about her life as a dairy cow, leaving her mom, Jersey, losing her best friend, Heidi, and then a heartwarming twist to make the reader laugh and maybe even cry!
Reviews:
It is a fascinating children’s book about a cow living on a small farm. It was “narrated” by the cow, herself, and written by the lady of the farm who know her subject well. The pictures in the book, taken by the farmer, are beautiful and add so much for children. It is a book children will want to read over and over.
great children’s book. a family favorite. such a sweet and loving animal story
This book is great! The real-life color pictures are beautiful and engaging. As a teacher I am pleased to find the text simple enough to understand and yet still challenging, with new vocabulary and a glossary. You can really get a feel for life on the farm through Mocha’s eyes. I will be watching for the next books in this series!
True-to-life story about farm living, narrated from the perspective of Mocha, the dairy cow. Beautifully written with actual photos from Mocha’s home. Children will enjoy learning about farm life through the eyes of Mocha and her farmers. Highly recommend this book and this author!
Such a sweet, wonderful book! We thoroughly enjoyed Mocha’s story!
Awesome book for young children. It keeps their interest throughout the whole book.
I loved this book! It was informative yet so heartwarming! I will definitely buy more books in this series!
My Name is Merlin! is Book Two in the “de Good Life Farm” series. It is the story of Merlin, the Easter Egger rooster at de Good Life Farm, and the important jobs he has on the farm. The reader will learn how important a rooster is to the safety of his hens as well as the health of the pasture!
Reviews:
Another marvelous book in the De good Farm series to add to my collection. Mocha’s family has grown and she narrates all the delightful adventures for each four-legged member! I am a follower of several authors and I rate author Diane Orr at the top for children’s literature.
This is another educational and entertaining book in this new series. I love the narration from Merlin the rooster’s perspective of living on the farm. The farm photos bring a realistic experience to learning about Merlin’s role in caring for the farm. My grandson loves the book and we plan on collecting each new book in “de Good Life Farm” series to add to our home library.
Book Three in the “de Good Life Farm” series, We Are Mocha’s Family is a fun adventure in the family tree of the cattle at de Good Life Farm. The reader will laugh at some of the antics of the calves that have been born on the farm, their different personalities and some of the adventures they have had.
Book Four in the “de Good Life Farm” series, My Name is Odin! is the story of the first livestock guardian dog to live on de Good Life Farm. In his own voice, Odin, a Great Pyrenees, tells how he learned to protect Merlin and his flock of hens from flying predators as well as to be a deterrent to land predators. There were some close calls, especially when he was a puppy, but Odin has become an important protector of the farm!
This book is one of the top sellers among elementary students.
The Mysterious Midnight Visitor is Book Five in the “de Good Life Farm” series. It is an interesting variation to the previous books in this series. This story unfolded unexpectedly when curious clues were found that someone was visiting the farm that didn’t live there! The other thing that makes this story different is that it is told in a dialogue that goes back and forth between Hershey and Cocoa telling their side of events as they unfolded, and Farmer Diane telling her side of the events. Who would have imagined? A real, live rodeo at de Good Life Farm!
Book Six in the “de Good Life Farm” series, It’s Cold Outside! Where is Your Jacket? was born out of a question asked by the author’s granddaughter, Emma. Driving by a herd of cattle one day, she questioned where their jackets were! As in the other books in this farm series, the photographs include pictures of the animals on de Good Life Farm, but in addition, there are photographs of animals that live on the farms of friends of the author. The book explores how the Creator provided for each animal to stay warm in cold weather and then contrasts the fact that Emma needs her jacket, as she was made different than the animals!
When it comes to protecting the chickens on de Good Life Farm, Odin and Merlin have become an amazing team! Book Seven in the “de Good Life Farm” series, Odin and Merlin: The Amazing Team is the true story of how a livestock guardian dog and a rooster have overcome their natural tendency to be adversaries in order to achieve a common goal: keeping the chickens safe from flying predators.
You and your children will love this book. Odin and Freya’s Big Surprise is the 8th in the “de Good Life Farm” series and the 3rd to feature Odin, our amazing livestock guardian dog. You will meet his mate, Freya, who is still young and learning how to be a good livestock guardian. Read about their adventures and discover their surprise! (hardback)
Reviews:
I love this book! It is a terrific book for young children to where you can either read to them, or they can read by themselves. The photos in this book are actual photos taken by the author. (You do not see that very often in books.) At the back of the book, there is a glossary that has words with their meanings so that young children can look up a word that they may not know or be familiar with. I look forward in reading this book to my grandchildren and will be purchasing other books by the author, Diane Orr.
Such a sweet book! Cant wait to give it to my daughter! She’s going to love it!
Paperback Picture Books
Did You Ever See Such a Silly Thing? is a break from the nonfiction picture books in the farm series and is the author’s first venture into another genre. It is a funny rhyming picture book about animals doing silly things with adorable illustrations by Chrissy Chabot that make the words come to life! Your child will enjoy this book and will ask to read it again and again!
